Is cellphone radiation safe?

When it comes to human safety, the question of what is harmful radiation often comes down to whether it non-ionizing radiation or ionizing radiation. Non-ionizing radiation is considered unsafe to humans.

Human cells are very small. The nucleus of the cell is even smaller, and it contains our DNA. Although DNA has a very small width, it is up to about 10 feet long and is curled up in the nucleus.

Radio waves, X-rays, and Gamma rays are all forms for radiation and have wave-like structures. When these waves get to be the size of the DNA molecule itself, they can strip off parts of the DNA when they collide. This damaged DNA molecule can lead to the cell becoming cancerous.

Radiation from cellphones, which are radio waves, is much less energetic than X-rays or Gamma rays. Their wavelengths are much larger than the human cell (about 75,000 times larger), so they cannot collide with the nucleus and DNA to cause damage. Because of their large wavelengths and inability to damage the cellular structure through collision, cell phone radiation falls under the category of non-ionizing radiation.

Non-ionizing radiation is safe to humans if the power level remains relatively low. When the power level rises, it transfers the energy in the form of heat to the cells. This is how microwave ovens work. Microwaves are also non-ionizing radio waves. So, keeping the cellphone power levels lower results in less transfer of heat to the skin, skull, and brain.

Although there are numerous studies that point to long-term exposure of high levels of cellular transmission causing cancer, there are just as many studies that say the opposite. The American Cancer Society will not take a position on this because of the inconclusive evidence. But frankly we don’t know the long-term implications of frequent cellphone usage. Some studies indicate there may be a link between Tinnitus and cellphone usage, but it is not clear if it is the cause or amplifies the condition. Regardless of the potential for health risk, it makes sense to reduce exposure to high levels of radio waves.

The application of WaveBlock reduces EMF emissions (radio waves) from Bluetooth earbuds and from mobile phones. This and minimizing phone and wireless earbud usage likely reduces any harmful effects.
