WaveBlock Technology Explained

Watch our short video here.

A lot is happening quietly when you apply our shields to your devices, even though you can't see it. When you attach a WaveBlock shield to your phone, the shield is designed to disperse the RF energy coming off the device into many smaller fragments rather than one concentrated stream. This dispersion is designed to help reduce your exposure from the front and back of the phone.

Think of it like a garden hose. Without WaveBlock, the energy comes off your device like a single strong stream on full blast. By adding a WaveBlock shield, you're essentially switching the hose to a gentle mist — still flowing, but less concentrated and spread in more directions. One shield, designed to reduce the intensity of your exposure.

Our shields are made for AirPods, iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, and more, with additional models added over time.

Wireless devices like phones and Bluetooth earbuds emit radiofrequency (RF) energy, and your body absorbs some of it during everyday use. The long-term health effects are still being studied and are not settled. In 2011, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer classified radiofrequency EMF as “possibly carcinogenic to humans” (Group 2B), based on limited evidence of an increased glioma risk among heavy mobile-phone users.¹ Separately, more than 250 scientists from over 40 nations have signed an international appeal — the International EMF Scientist Appeal — calling for stronger public guidelines on wireless device use.² Many people use wireless devices for hours a day without thinking about it. WaveBlock is designed to help reduce that exposure as a simple, everyday precaution. To learn more, visit our EMF Radiation Education Blog.

There is ongoing scientific discussion about long-term exposure to wireless and Bluetooth devices. A few of the themes researchers have raised:

  1. Skin contact and proximity: Wireless earbuds sit in or near the body for long stretches, sometimes hours at a time, which increases the amount of RF energy the surrounding tissue is exposed to.
  2. Continued study: Researchers are studying how the body absorbs RF energy over time. Some scientific groups have asked international health bodies to set more cautious guidelines for wireless devices.
  3. Areas of research: Organizations such as the American Academy of Environmental Medicine have studied possible biological effects of EMF exposure. The research is ongoing and not settled, which is part of why a precautionary approach appeals to many people.
  4. Children: Some research suggests children may absorb more RF energy than adults because their tissue is thinner. For families, that’s often a reason to be extra mindful.
  5. Scientific concern: More than 250 scientists from over 40 nations have signed an international appeal calling for stronger guidelines on wireless device use, citing the need for precaution while research continues.²

EMF exposure is something people of any age may want to be mindful of. Some peer-reviewed research suggests children may absorb more RF energy than adults, because their heads are smaller and their skulls and tissue are thinner.³ With phones, wireless earbuds, tablets, and games now part of daily life from a young age, kids are often around EMF-emitting devices more than ever. Part of the reason our founder created WaveBlock was concern for his own two young sons. Learn more here.

We're proud to have thousands of five-star reviews from customers. Many tell us they simply feel more at ease knowing they've taken a step to reduce their everyday exposure.

Yes. Our products are tested at FCC-accredited laboratories in the United States, and we're always transparent about it. We test at proper power levels so the results reflect how our products perform with current devices in real conditions. You can see our lab testing here.

No. Our shields are designed to be discreet and will not affect the sound quality or connectivity of your earbuds. We spent significant time engineering each shield to reduce exposure while keeping your devices fully functional.

No. Your battery and Wi-Fi will not be affected. Every WaveBlock product is engineered and tested for a specific device, which is why we don't use a one-size-fits-all design. Use them with confidence.

No, WaveBlock causes zero interference. You can keep using your wireless charger and magnets as normal. See a demonstration here.

Home testing is very different from lab testing. We test all products in controlled environments using faraday cages that are free of other devices. At home, your readings can be affected by interference from Wi-Fi routers, other phones, laptops, and modems — any of which can change the number you see. Our lab measurements are taken in accredited environments free of that outside interference.

Product Installation, Usage & Maintenance

Application is simple, but to get it right, please follow the instruction guide included in your packaging. We also have step-by-step instructions and videos on our website. WaveBlock shields are designed only for the specific model they're made for. For detailed instructions, click here.

Before installing, wipe down your device with the provided alcohol pad, then dry it thoroughly with the soft cloth. After removing a shield, remove any leftover adhesive with a clean cloth.

WaveBlock shields do not expire or lose effectiveness. How long one stays usable depends on the product and how it's handled:

  • Earbud Shields: Not reusable — they use a strong adhesive for a secure fit and are meant to stay in place for the life of the application.
  • iPad & MacBook Shields: Use a strong adhesive for durability. Not designed for frequent repositioning, though careful removal may allow reuse in some cases.
  • iPhone & Samsung Galaxy Shields: Reusable, as long as the sticker matches the same phone model. Each shield is engineered for a specific model, so if you upgrade phones, you'll need a new shield.

Shields don't degrade on their own, but adhesion and longevity come down to use and application. We recommend keeping a case over your shield to prevent peeling and lifting and to extend its life.

No. Shields peel off easily at any time. We don't recommend reapplying a shield once removed, since it may not adhere as securely the second time. When replacing a shield, remove any old adhesive residue first, using only the provided alcohol wipe — other cleaners or materials can keep the new shield from adhering properly. See our application videos here.

Yes. They're engineered to fit perfectly in your charging case.

No. We use premium materials designed for comfort and durability. You won't feel them or know they're on.

Shields can lift from application errors, heavy use, or storing earbuds loose in a pocket instead of a case. Lifting doesn't reduce how well the shield works. Using a case or cover is the best way to prevent it. Peeling or lifting from normal use over time isn't a manufacturing defect, but it's easy to keep a fresh shield on hand through our Subscribe & Save plan.

Almost always this comes from incorrect installation. Please revisit our application page, review the video, and check that the shield is applied correctly. If the issue continues, contact us.

A WaveBlock Gift Card is the easiest option, so they can choose the right product for their device.

A case helps keep the shield securely in place and is the best way to prevent peeling or lifting. A case isn't required for the shield to work — it's a recommendation that protects the shield and keeps it covered under our shield warranty.

Yes. Wireless charging is not affected by WaveBlock shields.

Our products are custom-designed for the specific models they're made for, and we only sell products for models we've tested. Results can vary based on the placement and number of antennas inside each device, so we don't recommend using a shield on a model it wasn't made for. We've done our testing only on the models shown on our website.

Returns & Exchanges

You have 30 days from delivery to return or exchange. Refunds are available on unused items in like-new condition and original packaging; once an item has been used, it's eligible for an exchange rather than a refund. Read the full policy here, and contact us with any questions.

For an unused item, start your return or exchange through our returns portal. For a warranty or defect claim, email us at info@waveblock.com with your order number and photos so we can review it (see the warranty question below). A holiday grace period extends returns up to 60 days from purchase.

This is an easy fix, and we understand it happens. Within your 30-day window, please send the original item back unused and we'll ship you the correct one. Return shipping is a flat fee of $6.99, and your replacement will ship as soon as your return shows in transit with tracking — you don't wait for it to arrive back to us. Any price difference is simply charged or refunded. Tip: double-check your exact device model before ordering to avoid any additional fees or delays.

Yes:

  • Phone cases and Apple Watch Halo bumpers: 1-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects.
  • Phone, MacBook, and iPad shields: 30-day warranty against peeling and lifting when used as directed under a case or cover.

A manufacturing defect is a flaw in how the item was made, and it's visible when the item arrives or within the first days of normal use. Damage that shows up after weeks or months of use is wear or accidental damage, not a defect. To file a claim, simply email info@waveblock.com within the warranty period with your order number, a short note on what happened, and clear, well-lit photos of the item from every angle — front, back, all four corners, the camera or sensor cutout, and a close-up of the issue. Complete photos are required. We review every claim carefully and will respond within 2 business days. Approved iPhone case and Halo defects are replaced free with no return needed; limit one warranty replacement per order.

Cosmetic wear, scratches, chips, stretching, peeling or shine changes, and any damage from drops, impact, pressure, heat, sun, or water. Our iPhone cases and Halo bumpers are slim, soft-touch designs made for everyday comfort and protection against scratches and minor bumps — they are not rugged or completely drop-proof. For sticker shields, peeling from use without a case, edge lift from repeated removal, and general wear over time are not covered.

Returns, exchanges, and refunds are handled by the original place of purchase. If you ordered on Amazon or from another retailer, please use that store’s return process — it’s the fastest way to be taken care of. We can only process returns for orders placed directly at waveblock.com. For product any additional questions, reach out to info@waveblock.com and we’ll do our best to help.

If we shipped the wrong item, your order arrived damaged, or your package was lost in transit, that's on us. Email info@waveblock.com with your order number and a photo, and we'll ship the correct item free within 1 business day — no return needed. Please report shipping damage within 7 days of delivery.

Unused items in their original condition and packaging can be returned within the return window. Opened or used shields and stickers cannot be returned due to health and adhesive requirements. Items marked final sale, branded merchandise, and bundle or promotional discounts are not eligible for return or refund.

Unused items can be exchanged within 30 days, subject to the policy above. Used iPhone cases and Halo bumpers can be exchanged (not refunded) within the 30-day window.

30 days from delivery, extended to 60 days during the holiday season. Final-sale and merchandise items are not eligible.

Items must be unused, in original condition and packaging, and within the return window. We may request photos showing an item is unused before approving a refund. We will not refund connectivity issues caused by incorrect installation.

Return shipping is the customer's responsibility — a flat $6.99 — except when the issue is our error (wrong product sent, damaged during transit, or defective item), which we cover in full.

Approved refunds are issued to your original payment method within 5–10 business days, dependent on your bank or credit card processing. An order number is required for all returns, exchanges, and warranty claims.

The return address is provided on the return label once your return request is processed and approved.
